Step 2: Pirates Net & Student Email Account Activation

The PiratesLink is the email program that is available to all MJC students. It's YOUR link to Modesto Junior College professors, departments, and other students! PiratesLink will be used by faculty to contact students enrolled in their classes and for college staff to inform you of important announcements like your registration dates and times, payment dates, financial aid, class cancellations, new class offerings, and much more!

Your account will have a 5GB mailbox size and a 10MB attachment limit. You may use this account to easily send and receive messages, manage your calendar, and track contacts. Your email account is web-based and can be accessed from any computer with an Internet connection.

It is your responsibility to ACTIVATE YOUR PIRATESLINK ACCOUNT once you have been accepted at MJC and issued an MJC student ID number.

How to Activate Your Account

  1. In PiratesNet, choose "Current Students" and then log in. (First time logging in? Type in your w number and your 6 digit birth date to change password and continue).
  2. Under the "Communication" heading, click the "Student Email Activation" link.
  3. Write down your college-issued student email account ID and copy your temporary password so that you can paste it in step 6.
  4. Next, go to to activate your account.
  5. If someone is already logged in, click "Can't access your account?" link.
  6. Enter your college-issued student email account ID and paste your temporary password. Click Sign in.
    Note: Your Windows Live ID should be; it is not
  7. Follow the prompts to change your password and setup your Question and Secret answer. This will enable you to reset your own password.
  8. Sign out when finished.

You can login to your account anytime, anywhere by visiting and entering your College-issued ID (

NOTICE:  MJC faculty and offices will communicate to you using college provided PiratesLink Student Email. MJC will stop sending email to your personal email account and will send email ONLY to your PiratesLink MJC Student Email. Learn how to activate your account today.
